Cable Access USB

You don't need to open the module. Make a small hole in the case wall directly over the USB port and plug a cable straight in.

  1. Mark the case wall right over the USB port. If you can't see the connector through the case, line the mark up with the port's position on the board before drilling.
  2. Drill slowly with a step bit, sized so the cable's plug housing — not just the tip — clears the hole. Low speed so the plastic cuts instead of melting or cracking, and don't let the bit plunge in onto the board.
  3. Blow or vacuum out every plastic chip before powering up. Swarf sitting on the PCB can short it.
  4. Support the plug by hand while flashing — don't lever it sideways, that pad shears and kills the port. Blank the hole with a grommet or tape afterward so the engine bay stays sealed out.
